Combining functionality with aesthetics, Bert's Boxes feature the latest in ultra-thin-framed Crittall-style windows and building technology with eco-friendly insulation.  

Designed with hoteliers and publicans in mind, our Pop-up Suite is a generous space with a fully fitted Bert & May wet room and optional kitchenette. It can serve as an instant addition for hotels at capacity or boasting a destination dining experience. The terrace creates a wonderful space for al fresco dining and living.

CONSIDERED DESIGN

We do exactly that. We consider your design. Bert & May create spaces to suit individual needs and that’s what sets Bert’s Boxes apart.  Exteriors are clad with our characterful reclaimed timber, whilst the interiors feature our very own handmade encaustic tiles, reclaimed timber floors, underfloor heating throughout. They are topped off with an exclusive Bert & May/Red Deer kitchen. The space has been carefully designed to ensure that storage and heating solutions are seamlessly incorporated, whilst the doors and windows have been specially selected to allow for maximum light, airflow and style.

Our 4-step process makes it easy & simple:

1) Pick your Box

We are designers, but practical ones. From the moment you have chosen your Box we are working towards a smooth delivery day. Our desktop survey - assessing access - is the first step. Some customers require a site visit from our technical team and we will be glad to discuss services, infrastructure & connectivity to the Box.

2) Pick your materials

The quality of our materials is what makes our Boxes unique. Select your cladding, tiles, flooring, kitchen and paints from the full range of materials from www.bertandmay.com

3) Place your deposit

With a 50% deposit, we will begin the manufacture of your Box.  We will agree a delivery date with you before any monies are exchanged.

4) Take delivery

Your Box will be constructed and delivered ready for almost immediate use. We aim to deliver 12 - 14 weeks after an order is placed.

MATERIALS

Bert & May are specialists in unique and original materials. Our Pop-up Suite is designed from a range of unique reclaimed tiles and wood sourced by Bert & May, including Alalpardo black and white encaustic tiles and weathered barn oak. We have a beautiful range of paints to suit all projects and design-visions.

ECO-FRIENDLY

Bert's Boxes boast the latest in insulation systems, as well as green living roofs planted with wild flowers to encourage biodiversity, absorb rainwater; promotong warmth in the winter and cooling in the summer. They also look great.

Bert & May work with specialist consultants Enhabit, who can recommend a variety of renewables packages to maximise the energy saving and generating potential of your site. 

The Green Solution

This package includes a 2 kWp solar photovoltaic system from SunEdison’s high performing Silvantis range of panels, with an industry-leading Solar Edge inverter and a single panel solar thermal system from Viridian.  The panels of each of these systems are aesthetically pleasing (all black) and will integrate into any location. The SunEdison photovoltaic system will generate up to a quarter of the Boxes’ electricity and hot water consumption (depending on usage) using carbon-friendly solar energy without compromise on aesthetics or load.  The systems each qualify for the Government subsidies, which should, in addition to the carbon savings, which you make, provide an index-linked return on investment of up to 8% per annum.   

The Greener Solution

This package includes a 3.8 kWp solar photovoltaic system from SunEdison’s high performing Silvantis range of panels, with an industry-leading Solar Edge inverter and a single panel solar thermal system from Viridian.  The panels of each of these systems are aesthetically pleasing (all black) and will integrate into any location. The SunEdison photovoltaic system will generate up to a half of the Boxes’ electricity and hot water consumption (depending on usage) using carbon-friendly solar energy without compromise on aesthetics or load.  The system also includes a battery that stores the clean energy, which has been generated but not used. Uniquely, this will allow the occupants to use the electricity at night, even when there’s no light, self-containing the Box even more.  The systems each qualify for the Government subsidies, which should, in addition to the carbon savings that you make, will provide an index-linked return on investment of up to 8% per annum.   

We can even provide you with on-going carbon saving data. 

DELIVERY AND INSTALLATION

Each Box is wired and fitted for plumbing and electrics. They are decorated and should you wish, even furnished.

Bert's Boxes have the structural integrity of a conventional building. By completing them in the factory, the time we need on-site is usually reduced to mere hours - possibly a day or so depending on conditions. Our turn-key solution is easy, swift and saves you the pain of coordinating and managing subcontractors. It generates hardly any noise or mess, and no waste. 

Our Boxes require minimal groundwork and foundations, and we can suggest a number of options for your groundworkers. We deliver to your site, arranging transport and craneage for you. Once the Box is on site it is simply unwrapped and craned into position, with our installation team present to oversee siting, connection and commissioning.

PLANNING INFORMATION

Bert's Boxes can be defined as mobile homes or caravans. The Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960 states that no site licence is required if a caravan is within the curtilage of a dwelling house and the use of the land use remains 'incidental to the enjoyment as such of the dwelling house'.

Subject to their location, caravans and mobile homes can be placed without the need for full planning permission. Rules may differ eg. in conservation areas.
